In the fall of 2020, founders Justin Tappero and Don Fraser collaborated to open a food truck under the Bluewater Bridge, in Port Huron. Don grew up across the ST. Clair River in Corona. He would talk about the Chip Trucks under the bridge on the Canadian side for the last fifty years and he wondered why nothing on the U.S. side could stick. So, Don approached Justin who grew up in a restaurant family to open their first food truck.

They opened WHAT THE FRY in March of 2021, under the Bluewater Bridge in Port Huron. With much success and support from the community, Justin and Don decided to open a carryout location to serve their customers year-round. After a busy summer, as the food truck season started to wind down, Don decided to leave the company to spend more quality time with his family. Meanwhile, Justin decided to continue their vision.

The next couple months, Justin completed the renovation with the help from his new partner, Josh Thrushman. Josh was born and raised in Port Huron and is a valuable addition to the WHAT THE FRY team. December 15th, 2021, WHAT THE FRY opened their first brick & mortar carryout.

WHAT THE FRY was voted by the community as the 2022 Best of the Best Burger winner! They feature Smash Burgers (Beef or Chicken), Crispy Chicken, Pulled Pork, Fresh Hand-cut French Fries, Poutine, Fried Cheese Curds and much much more. WHAT THE FRY’S reputation is growing quickly due to their delicious take on house made culinary delights, such as, Cordon Bleu Crispy Chicken, Bacon Jalapeno Popper Smash Burger, Bacon PBJ Smash Burger, French Onion Smash Burger, Bacon Blackberry Smash Burger, just to name a few.
